The first step in helping your kids make friends is going places where they can meet kids with similar interests. Talk through this list with your kids. If these ideas aren’t quite right, use them as a launching pad for thinking of similar kinds of groups or activities that are better suited to your kids’ interests. Talk explicitly about not just doing an activity they love but also about the joy of finding others who love what you do and spending time with them to explore that interest together. This may change your (and your child’s) outlook from “join a team where my kid can get good at and compete at something” to “finding my people”.
